Peace Day 2017

on this ordinary, summer day,
shore life is in motion.
seagulls perch, pensively staring.
waves churn and crash shore.
ocean roars, wailing of life's chaos.
then, quietly peace gracefully enters,
riding on seafoam spilling forth.
immersed in the moment,
I become one with nature.
life stands still.

The United Nations celebrates International Day of Peace on September 21st each year. This day is "devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples." This year's theme is "Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All."

Wishful Thinking

together we stand
forever linked.
peace flows.
respect for others given.
safety not questioned
and the
dignity of life honored
for all mankind.

Dylan Metrano's peace dove

Margarita Engel and Amy Ludwig VanDerwater have created an International Day of Peace padlet and invited authors, illustrators, and teachers to share writing, art, or projects related to peace. You can access the site here

In honor of International Peace Day, I already submitted some poetry to the padlet, changed my Twitter header, and tweeted using the hashtag, #PeaceDay.

May peace ring through the world this week:

I connect with Amy Ludwig VanDerwater for the Poetry Friday Roundup hoping that many poets and writers will bring a sense of peace to her site.

It is the last day of summer and I am peacefully designing my summer gallery, Sunkissed Summer. There is so much beauty captured in each offering that you will find peaceful moments perusing the gallery. Stay tuned.
